History
With the support of Kaumatua ( elders) of Arahura Pa ( tribal village ) we are able to for the first time share with the public the last private river on earth.
In New Zealand history every tribe has their own traditions for Pounamu and it has become a treasure for all peoples, past and present.
For hundreds of years there have been many battles for the greenstone. Today Kati Waewae Hapu are the living descendants of those battles.
Pounamu was also made into tools and pendants, and these were traded for food and clothing, etc.
